So let’s get right to it. Right now you’re probably asking yourself/me why the hell does the internet need another mp3 blog? And honestly, you’re totally right. We’re a culture adrift in cheap criticism/self-promotion and this is probably just another brick in the wall.
This endeavor is inspired by the D.I.Y. aesthetic. I realized that if I cared enough about music to spend recklessly on concerts, spend hours finding new/old bands and driving friends, relatives and passersby to distraction talking about it, then I probably should be willing to turn that into something productive.
A few sorta guiding principles for this:
1. This is not a blog for mp3 dumps or news tidbits. I'd feel too much like a free PR rep if I spent my time just throwing up a few sentences about the new Wilco album and a link to "I Am Trying To Break Your Heart." I'm hear because I want to talk about music. In paragraphs (think more Atlantic and less New York Times). The songs are here to illuminate the discussion and maybe be a little carrot at the end of the stick for you.
2. I'm writing on the internet, and I like that. Though I will always love the printed word with the firery passion of a thousand suns, being online does allow me to bring a lot of different content to you. My posts are link heavy. Some are additional musical background or context, some explain an esoteric and probably self-involved reference and some are just excuses to show Simpsons clips. Enjoy if you're so inclined, if not, no sweat.
3. This is a blog about my life with music. I'm not a huge fan of the overly-indulgent Pitchfork review that tells you more about the author's foibles than the band and I will try to avoid that. However, I'd rather hear about why someone cares about music than merely what the music is and you will get some of my life bleeding into the blog. If that gets too grating, sorry dude, check out AllMusic.com, it's good stuff, sans the introspection no personality.

So here it is. A place for discussions about indie, punk, rock, folk, R&B, electronica, reggae, hip-hop and whatever else tickles my fancy, or, to put it more simply, “pop music”. Don’t expect too much journalistic detachment (who writes about music to be measured?) or even too many negative reviews. Life’s too short, I write about what I like to hear and think you’ll enjoy hearing too, oh invisible reader. So enjoy, and if anything strikes, please don’t hesitate to drop a comment. I like talking to people with something to say, whether they agree with me or not.
